TROMPE L' OEIL - (pronounced -
trump loy) is a French phrase, which means, "to fool the eye". This is a
technique used by artists to trick the viewer into believing that they are
seeing something three-dimensional before them. What truly fools the viewer is the artist's use of shadows which, if done correctly, will have you taking a second glance to see if the object is real or just a painted illusion. |
