Old Cars

Car collecting is a serious business and the home owners of the garage and home below have quite an impressive collection! I must say this is the first mural I have painted that is based on a car theme. I really enjoyed learning a little about each of the cars and seeing the care that was put into restoring them. Some of the cars are a work in progress and others like the camera featuring the children below is in mint condition. Each car shown in the mural belonged to or is still owned by my clients. The mural is located close to the garage where the cars are stored, so during the day I could go out at anytime an view the real McCoy! At road shows the cars are roped off, but here they are lined up one after another and I really enjoyed admiring their individual beauty. Shades of the Past is a huge car show event that some of the cars are also featured in. It is also the main inspiration for the mural theme and it is an event that is regularly attended by the family and their cars. We also included an old Texaco gas station and a route 66 sign to bring back old memories of traveling down those roads. In the mural the parents appear to be relaxing under the tent as they would at a show, watching their children pass by before them. It is one of the most original ideas I have been requested to paint and retains a great deal of sentimental value, truly a wonderful example of what mural painting is all about. I am sure I will refer to it time and time again.
